*there's a new daddy!

First time changing the diaper of his son!

This is not your average sized diaper...

or your average sized bottom...

there were a lot of wires and tubes to manage...

Also, he got to take Will's temperature...

which was fine by the way!

But the most important thing that happened that day was that we saw
his hair free of masks or the Aquafor
they cover him with for the jaundice lights....

Other than that excitement, we have good news about his weight. After being born at 2 lbs, he lost a little and has slowly regained. We have tried not to pay that much attention to his weight and worry unnecessarily, but it sure is good news when he gains! As of last night he now weighs a whopping 2 lbs and 1 oz! A tiny, tiny improvement but we'll take what we can get.

Unfortunately, he is having more trouble with apnea spells. The nurses say this is when preemies forget to breathe. He did start to get oxygen through his cannula yesterday instead of just room air. Now they are doing some tests to see if he needs a cpap machine. We obviously don't like when he has more machinery attached to him, but are trying not to worry too much about this. The truth is that other 29 week preemies often have had a that kind of help all along. So Will needing some extra help is to be expected and it just makes him a normal preemie.

He is also getting an echo cardiogram (sp?) today to check on his heart murmur. I hesitate to describe what is going on with that because I may not have all the medical terms correct, but there is a ventricle that is needed while the baby is in the womb, but not needed when they are born. For a preemie this tends to close slower than normal and sometimes needs medication to help it along. They are going to look today with the echo to see if it's closing with the help of some medication.

Other than that, he's still getting 1cc of breast milk every 3 hrs which makes us proud. It unfortunately means there is a tube down his throat and tape on his face to keep it in place but we know one day those things will be gone & we can see that pretty face all the time!
